Olympic Posters – Alan Clarke

by admin

Here’s a few Olympic proposal posters designed by Alan Clarke which has sparked some debate within the graphic design community. Visually stunning pieces of graphic design, the work has come under some scrutiny amidst claims of being very similar to the fantastic Otl Aicher and 1972 Munich Olympics.

Personally, I am of the opinion that whilst it is clear that he has been influenced by the 1972 Munich Olympics, Alan Clarke has still done a fantastic job. We are all inspired from somewhere and he has shown us some excellent work.

I will leave it for you all to decide by viewing Otl Aicher’s work here. I found Alan Clarke’s designs courtesy of the excellent formfiftyfive blog.

These designs are brilliant. I think the claims of similarity are rubbish. There is some influence but the designs are clearly depicting motion and form where the 1972 piece is …well psuedo-halftones of architectural structures.
