Book Cover Illustration
A good friend of mine amazingly had a book published and I was absolutely honoured to be asked to design an illustrated cover for it.
Working as a youth worker in London, Jacob Whittingham wrote this fantastic book in response to the spate of youth on youth murders that were hitting the headlines. In an era where there are so many positive black role models from Barack Obama to Oprah Winfrey, there still remains much adversity for a large proportion of young black teenagers living in the big city, where promise is often substituted for a life of crime. Through his work Jacob has managed to educate young intelligent teens to use these positive influences to build a better life for themselves.
The target market was predominantly young adults and teenagers, so the theme of the cover was an illustration of positive and negative examples of “What being black is and what being black isn’t”. The fantastic Grand Theft Auto illustrations heavily influenced the final design and I was pleased with the result.
